Building Beautica.ba — Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Leading Beauty & Aesthetics Portal

As part of my regular engagement at Invenit.io, I worked on building Beautica — a comprehensive beauty and aesthetics portal that has grown into the most active beauty community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

What started as an idea to fill a content gap in the regional beauty space has become a full-fledged platform connecting readers, professionals, and brands across the country.

This is the story behind the project, what it does, and why building it was one of the most interesting challenges I’ve worked on.

The Gap We Saw

Beauty content online is overwhelming — and almost none of it is written with the Bosnian and Herzegovinian market in mind. Global blogs recommend products that aren’t available locally. Influencers promote treatments without context. And when someone in Sarajevo or Banja Luka wants to find a trusted salon or clinic, there’s no single reliable place to look.

Beautica.ba was built to change that. The mission was clear from the start: create a trustworthy, locally-focused beauty portal that connects the beauty industry, experts, brands, and clients — all in one place.

What Beautica Offers

Beautica is not just a blog. It’s a multi-layered platform with several interconnected pillars:

Expert-Driven Content

The heart of the portal is its content library — over 500 expert articles across a wide range of categories:

What makes the content different is the editorial standard. Beautica writes about skincare based on science — without myths, with evidence. Every article is backed by dermatologists, cosmetologists, and certified beauty professionals. The portal’s expert contributors include aesthetic surgeons, dermatologists, and experienced beauty journalists who bring real clinical and editorial credibility.

Beyond the core categories, Beautica also covers beauty trends, publishes in-depth interviews with industry professionals, creates practical beauty guides, and even has dedicated sections for teenagers, men’s grooming, and nutrition and supplementation.

The Verified Directory

One of the most technically challenging — and most valuable — parts of Beautica is the salon and clinic directory. It’s a searchable database of 739 verified beauty locations across Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized by city and category:

  • 231 hair salons
  • 220 cosmetic salons
  • 164 dental clinics
  • 47 aesthetic clinics
  • 56 perfumeries
  • 6 fitness centers

The directory covers 11 cities — including Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Mostar, Zenica, Bijeljina, Trebinje, Prijedor, Gradiška, and Laktaši. Each listing includes ratings, reviews, contact information, and photos. Users can sort by recommendations, highest ratings, or proximity to their location.

Building a reliable local business directory is harder than it looks. Data has to be verified, kept up to date, and presented in a way that’s genuinely useful — not just a list of names. The Beautica directory is designed to help someone in Mostar find a trusted aesthetic clinic, or someone in Tuzla discover a top-rated hair salon, in just a few clicks.

Beautica Awards

One of the most exciting features we developed is the Beautica Awards — an annual awards program celebrating excellence in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s beauty industry. The awards cover five categories:

  1. Best Cosmetic Salon — for outstanding treatments, hygiene, and client satisfaction
  2. Best Aesthetic Clinic — for safe, professional, and innovative procedures
  3. Best Hair Salon — for leading trends, techniques, and client experience
  4. Best Beauty Brand — for product quality and innovation
  5. Best New Product — for standout launches in the past 12 months

The awards process runs from May through July, with public nominations, expert jury selection, public voting, and a ceremony attended by industry professionals, media, and influencers. It’s become a milestone event for the beauty industry in the region.

Who Uses Beautica

Beautica reaches 50,000+ monthly readers, with an audience that is 85% female and primarily aged 25–45. But the platform serves two distinct audiences:

For readers — anyone looking for trustworthy beauty advice, product recommendations, or help finding a salon or clinic in their city. The Beautica portal is the go-to resource for people who want evidence-based content instead of marketing noise.

For businesses and brandsBeautica offers multiple ways for salons, clinics, and beauty brands to reach a highly targeted audience. Through the partner program, businesses can get listed in the directory, sponsor content, or collaborate on editorial features. The advertising options include banner placements, sponsored articles, newsletter features (with a 72% open rate across 15,000+ subscribers), and social media promotion across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube to a combined 35,000+ followers.

The Numbers

The growth of Beautica has been organic and steady:

  • 50,000+ monthly readers
  • 500+ expert articles published
  • 739 verified beauty locations in the directory
  • 200+ verified beauty locations with detailed profiles
  • 15,000+ newsletter subscribers
  • 35,000+ social media followers
  • 5+ cities with active coverage
  • 72% newsletter open rate
  • 3.5 min average session duration

These numbers reflect genuine engagement — people reading full articles, browsing the directory, and coming back regularly.

The Technical Challenge

From a development perspective, Beautica.ba was a complex build. Unlike a simple blog, the platform combines:

  • A content management system powering 500+ articles across multiple categories and tags
  • A full business directory with geolocation, ratings, reviews, and verified data for 739 locations
  • A newsletter system with segmentation and high deliverability
  • An awards/voting system with multi-phase workflows (nominations, jury selection, public voting)
  • An events module for community activities
  • SEO optimization at scale — structured data, category pages, tag pages, author profiles, and internal linking across hundreds of pages

Working on this at Invenit.io meant building something that needed to work both as a media platform and as a business tool. The architecture had to support editorial workflows, directory management, and partnership features — all while maintaining fast load times and a clean reading experience.

Why This Project Matters

What I find most compelling about Beautica is that it fills a real gap. Before this portal, someone in Bosnia and Herzegovina looking for science-based skincare advice had to rely on foreign-language content about products they couldn’t buy locally. Someone looking for a trusted aesthetic clinic had to ask around on social media and hope for the best.

Beautica.ba changed that. It gave the beauty community in BiH a home — a place where expert content, verified business listings, honest product reviews, and industry recognition all live under one roof.

Whether you’re a reader looking for your next skincare routine, a salon owner who wants to be discovered by new clients, or a brand looking to reach the most engaged beauty audience in the region — Beautica is where that connection happens.

Explore Beautica

Building a product that becomes part of people’s daily routines is the most rewarding kind of work. Beautica.ba is exactly that — and watching it grow into a trusted platform for an entire country’s beauty community has been one of the highlights of my work at Invenit.io.
