Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 12, 2026

Nomad Tracker (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is developed by Dysko. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.

Summary

Nomad Tracker is an offline-first app. Your travel data is stored locally on your device and is never sent to our servers. We do not track you, serve ads, or sell your data.

Data We Collect

Data Stored on Your Device

All data is stored locally in a SQLite database on your device. We do not have access to this data. It includes:

  • Travel stays — entry/exit dates, country codes, and optional notes you enter
  • User profiles — profile names and emoji avatars you create
  • Tracker settings — which visa rules you’ve activated and notification preferences
  • Diagnostic logs — local event logs for troubleshooting (viewable in Settings)

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • GPS coordinates or precise location history
  • Photos or photo content
  • Personal identity information (name, email, phone number)
  • Usage analytics or behavioral data
  • Advertising identifiers

Permissions & How We Use Them

Location (GPS)

The app requests location permission to detect which country you are currently in. Here is how it works:

  1. Your device provides GPS coordinates to the app
  2. The app compares coordinates against offline country boundary maps stored on your device
  3. Only the detected country code (e.g., “DE” for Germany) is kept
  4. GPS coordinates are immediately discarded from memory — they are never stored or transmitted

Background location access allows the app to detect border crossings when the app is not open. This processing happens entirely on your device.

Photo Library

The app can scan your photo library to reconstruct past travel history from GPS metadata embedded in your photos. Here is how it works:

  1. The app reads only the date and GPS coordinates from photo metadata (EXIF data)
  2. GPS coordinates are matched against offline country maps to identify which country each photo was taken in
  3. No photos are viewed, copied, uploaded, or modified
  4. No photo data leaves your device
  5. You choose which detected trips to import — nothing is added automatically

Activity Recognition (Android)

Used alongside location to detect when you have arrived at a new location, improving border crossing detection accuracy. Processed entirely on-device.

Notifications

Local notifications alert you when you are approaching visa day limits. These notifications are generated and triggered entirely on your device — no push notification servers are involved.

Third-Party Services

Firebase Crashlytics

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports. This helps us fix bugs and improve stability. Crash reports may include:

  • Device model and OS version
  • App version
  • Stack traces (technical error information)
  • Crash timestamps

Crash reports do not include your travel data, location, photos, or any personally identifiable information. You can learn more about Firebase’s data practices at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

No Other Third-Party Services

The app does not use:

  • Analytics services (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
  • Advertising networks or SDKs
  • Social media SDKs
  • Cloud databases or sync services
  • Any other third-party data processors

Data Sharing

Nomad Tracker does not share your data with anyone.

The only way data leaves your device is through actions you explicitly initiate:

  • CSV export — you can export your travel history as a CSV file and share it using your device’s share sheet
  • PDF export — you can generate a PDF travel summary and share it using your device’s share sheet

Where these files go (email, cloud drive, messaging app) is determined by you.

Data Storage & Security

  • All data is stored locally on your device in an encrypted app sandbox
  • No cloud backup or sync is currently implemented
  • We have no servers that store your data
  • Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored data

Children’s Privacy

Nomad Tracker does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from any user.

Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:

  • Access — view all your data directly in the app
  • Export — export your travel data as CSV or PDF at any time
  • Delete — delete individual trips, profiles, or uninstall the app to remove all data
  • Revoke permissions — disable location or photo access at any time in your device settings

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
